Dr. Joke Spaargaren
After graduating from the University of Amsterdam as a Medical Doctor (MD), Joke Spaargaren specialized in Medical Microbiology at Leiden University Medical Center in 1998. As a clinical microbiologist she worked in various hospital settings often in executive positions; she has a post-doctoral MBA-Health degree at Erasmus University in Rotterdam. She participated in the research project with Prof. Dr. Servaas Morré at the Free University and the Municipal Health Service both in Amsterdam, which led to a PhD degree in 2006 (A multidisciplinary approach to the study of Chlamydia trachomatis infections. Female urogenital and male anorectal infections). At present she still participates in research lines at the Free University on Chlamydia trachomatis infections, with a central focus on female infertility and women’s reproductive health.
